Colorado has recently engaged in several international initiatives that have significant implications for our state and local communities.
Joining the WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network
In February, Governor Jared Polis announced Colorado’s intent to join the World Health Organization’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). This move aims to enhance our state’s access to global public health data and improve preparedness for potential health threats. By participating in GOARN, Colorado seeks to ensure that our healthcare systems are better connected to international early-warning systems and scientific expertise, ultimately benefiting the health and safety of all Coloradans.
Hosting the 41st Annual Space Symposium
Last month, Colorado Springs hosted the 41st annual Space Symposium, attracting representatives from over two dozen global space agencies and numerous aerospace companies. This event highlighted Colorado’s pivotal role in the aerospace sector, with discussions focusing on the future of space exploration, the rise of private space enterprises, and the increasing commercialization of space. The symposium not only showcased our state’s leadership in aerospace but also contributed an estimated $16 million to the local economy, underscoring the economic benefits of such international gatherings.
Welcoming a Japanese Delegation to Strengthen Economic Ties
In January, Colorado welcomed a delegation of business and economic development leaders from Japan. Organized by the Global Business Development division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the visit aimed to showcase Colorado’s advancements in photonics, semiconductors, and quantum technologies. This engagement reflects our state’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that can drive economic growth and innovation, potentially leading to new investment opportunities and job creation for Coloradans.
These recent developments illustrate Colorado’s proactive approach to engaging with the global community.
